Re: What came first, the chicken or the egg?
Eggs are just specialised cells.

And cells are just pretty bubbles minding their own business.

Re: What came first, the chicken or the egg?
Eggs predate chickens by several eons.

Eggs, when single celled organisms discovered the joy of sex.

Thank you, Randy Bacterium

The Egg.

Eggs are real things and chickens are an ontological convenience.

The egg, as through evolution it would have been laid by a chicken-like animal

Re: What came first, the chicken or the egg?
As chickens evolved from dinosaurs it must have been an egg first.

A small feathered dinosaur had a genetic fault that created a basic form of chicken from their faulty egg. The chickens we have today probably only look vaguely like their ancestors same as we look vaguely similar to apes but at some stage, it had to be an egg first...

Cheers for the link Monk~koknee and that all makes sense...however, how the fuck did the chicken get there in the first place if it did not come from an egg?

Re: What came first, the chicken or the egg?
The Chicken. In teh early species it would have probably given birth in the womb but then started to develop a shell around the foetus. Then pop it out to hatch later

Re: What came first, the chicken or the egg?
Arguably, any proto-chicken that was procreating in a non-oviparous way wasn't technically a chicken. Likewise, any egg layed by a proto-chicken was not technically a chicken egg. Therefore at some point in avian evolution, something laid an egg and at the same precise moment it could be defined as a chicken and the egg defined as a chicken egg. So neither 'came' first. Just saying...

A chicken is a chicken unless it is Kentucky fried

The changes are minute. It's almost meaningless to define one as a chicken and the nearly a chicken as something else.

Are you suggesting that the parent chicken was unfaithful?

Coffee 1:02 Mon Mar 30
Re: What came first, the chicken or the egg?
But the parent, the one that laid the egg that mutated, must have given its egg the capacity to mutate, and so the mutation is simply a function of the parent's own genetic make-up.
